About Us

Who We Are

Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue, Inc. was founded in January 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  We are a No-kill, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization.  Since we are a no-kill rescue, we are often subjected to more than just the basic care of an animal.  Our Vet services are not free. VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital helps us with offering discounted vet care.  But even so the bills add up especially when one of our rescues needs a lot of extra care.

We are comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers with full-time careers and families.  We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends.  So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away --- it's probably because we are at work and will call you when we get home.

What We Do

We do not have a shelter... We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel, so we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets.  Since these rescue animals live with us, we are better able to speak of the pet's temperament and behavior patterns, so our pets get adopted sooner.  This also allows us to better match the pet with the lifestyle of the new home.

We are an exclusively foster-care program where our pet lives with you, at our expense; we pay for and provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable ~ and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up.  Sometimes the need to foster an animal lasts a week, sometimes several months.  A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you rather than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We are ALWAYS looking for foster homes for our pets.  We pay for everything, all we ask is that you treat the pet as if it were part of your family, and make the pet available for local weekend adoption events.

What We Ask

Because we don't have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him -- OR-- if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help you find a new home.  Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path.  There are just too many dogs & cats out there that need help.  But.. we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them.
So Now...We Need A Little Help
We can "rescue" til the cows come home.  Without a shelter or deep pockets our biggest problems are coming up with foster homes and the funds to pay the vet bills.  If you have room in your home, please consider making room in your heart and give one of our dogs or cats a loving home until we can adopt them out.
